To the Cobb/Sasser family:
I am blown away at the wonderful web-site that you have constucted. This is the absolute BEST one I have ever seen constructed. I believe it should be given an award for Family Web-sites. (just my humble opinion) But I have visited many family web-sites and I was struck at the amount of information and pictures that were so well put to together. So hats off to you!!!!! My sister-in-law is a Taylor and directed me to vist this site. I am glad she did. She was a "Jones" before she married and her family has "Taylor" roots on her father's side. She discovered a lot of information on your web-site. Thanks again for such quality work. Sincerely, Bonnie J. (Hunter) King

I found a deed stating Rachel Black's parents are Thomas Black and Elizabeth, both of Lincoln Co. NC also meantions Ambrose Cobb being son-in-law. she (Elizabeth /late Thomas Black) gifted the Broad River plantation to her son-in-law, Ambrose Cobb (husband of Rachel Black). Her Father is not Benjamin.

I am inquiring into the Cottongim lineage. My great grandmother was Lucy Cottongim who married Eli F. Payne. I am also related to the family of Newton Cottongim who married Eli's older sister Martha Ann Payne. Recently I found a some old photographs that belonged to Lucy and Eli and we think some of the people in the photos may be Cottongims. I do know that on the back of one it says to aunt Lucy from Hattie and it is a baby sitting in her fathers lap. I assume this is Hattie Cottongim the daughter of Newton and Martha so the picture would be c.1885. I also have a few family photos from the late 1800's of various people in Iowa and Idaho if anyone knows any family members who lived there email me and i'll see if we cannot find out who these people could be . Thank you.
Very informative site. After having a conversation with a friend about cousins, we tried figuring out the difference between 1st cousins, 2nd cousins etc. Your charts have explained everthing! Many thanks.

I don't know whether you are aware of it but in the UK a male swan (Usually mute white) is called a cob and the female is called a pen. The young are called cygnets. I noticed on your webpage that there is the reference to the coat of arms containing a swan
"Many Coats-of-Arms have been given at different times to the various branches of the English family of Cobb.
Cobbs of Bedfordshire used "a bird between three feathers;"
Cobbs of Kent County, "Ranpant leopard and three @#%$!;"
Cobbs of Ireland, "arm brandishing sabre;"
Cobb of Norfolk, "a swan's head holding a fish;"
Cobb of Oxfordshire, "an elephant."
In the past swans were eaten.
In the UK the swans are connected to the Royal Family and as I understand it are owned and protected by them. Here is a page about it
I hope this is of use to you. Best Wishes Paul

There are several major errors on this list. I, too, am a John/Sabra descendant. John was born about 1805 not 1745 and Sarah J. and Charles R. are not Thomas & E.J. children but John and Sabra's youngest. Other dates seem off also.
A. Deason Smith
Got to your site because my ancestor, Eleanor McKiddy born February 25, 1761 died February 06, 1845 is, most likely kin. Eleanor married Henry Lusk in Abbeville County, SC. But, as I looked through your information, I found another connection. You have a Nancy Ann Elks from Pitt County, NC. Nancy Ann was the daughter of Samuel Elks, Sr. and Prudence Willoughby. This was a second marriage for Prudence. She was first married to Obadiah Moore, Sr. Obadiah and Prudence are my direct ancestors. Princess Anne County Minute Book #8, page 128
"Ordered that the Clerk pay Samuel Elks his wife's third part of her late husband Obadiah Moore's estate in his office." dated 18 Sept 1764

Researching Alexander Brock b 1768. Would love any info you have.
my mother was born a sasser, father was john william sasser, his father was stephen henry sasser. Stephen,s father was born in NC. I'm almost sure we are relatives,Tennessee was birth place for my mother, her father and her grandfather and my grandfather/great-grandfather.
My family used to vacation in Bull Shoals every year when I was a kid. One year I bought a Junior Cobb carving of a trout. It was painted and I was told that he didn't paint many of his carvings. I think I paid ten bucks for it which was a lot for a kid like me. It still hangs on my wall to this day.
Michael C. Humfleet
Got you site from Wayne Humfleet. I am the youngest son of Wayne and Drusilla Humfleet.
There are some problems with dates. You have Rowe Wyatt being 11 years old fathering Samuel (and having 4 other children). You also have Samuel Coleman dying at age 44 with his wife 18 at the time. I don't think Samuel Wyatt can be attached to Rowe. He seems to belong with another family.
A wonderful website. Willie Cobb was my Great grandfather. He married Stella Partin.Their daughter Edna Cobb Hatfield was my grandmother.
