I am the gg grand daughter of Wm. McKiddy who was married to Eliz. Harp. My g grandfather was James A McKiddy, my grandfather was Geo. McKiddy. In the last few months we have discovered that William's father was Little Berry Croley born abt 1815 in Whitley Co, KY. Wm. was born out of wedlock. We believe his mother was Elender McKiddy, daughter of Christina "china" Rose McKiddy. This info was given to James A McKiddy III by Nan McKiddy Wright, Wm's granddaugher by Wymer McKiddy prior to her death in the late 1980's. It has always been rumored that the Croley family was related to Wm. McKiddy. I believe the info you have on Wm.'s parents in incorrect. I think Henry was born in 1866, not 1816. I would be interested in any info anyone else has to prove or disprove this. Your web site is awesome, so many great pictures! My grandmother was Annie Belle Winters McKiddy who had two sisters that married Sausser brothers. It's all in the family, one way or another!! Please contact me by email at: email@example.com. God Bless, Chris
I am also related to Ned Boone through his daugther Jane. Just wanted to say hello.

My grandfather was David Jones, born in 1896. He was the son of Alabama "Bam" Asher, born in 1882. Her parents were Dillion and Rachel Fields Asher. David's father was (Pete?) Jones who was killed before David was born. David's uncle, James Matt Jones, adopted him. Bam later married Joe Asher. I have census records indicating that Bam was living with Delorah Taylor. The record has Delorah listed as "mother", however she was not Bam's mother. I would appreciate any help in finding my grandfather's family.

Hi dad, I love the website.
I want to thank you for the Taylor School House picture as my father went there as well as alot of my relaives. My grandparents lived in Doans Holler on the other side of the pond. My cousins took me to see it but I could not see Doans Holler as it was locked so I couldn't see where my dad, John D. was born.

I happened upon this site in an effort to search for the historical information about Estepa, Spain. I was very amazed with the details in Tracing the name back wards to Estepa and was also amazed that there was a mention of typical Estep/Eastep physical traights. Just found this site. I am a descendent of Mary "Polly" Pigg and Elijah McWhorter. Their son Jesse Henry and wife Lucinda Benge McWhorter were my grandmother's grandparents. In the spring of 2003, we took a little trip to Clay County, Ky and found the cemetary at Benge, Ky where Mary "Polly" & Elijah McWhorter and Jesse& Lucinda McWhorter are buried side by side. There are still McWhorters in the local towns that are direct descendents. Enjoyed your site. Thank you.

My aunt and uncle John and Helen Williamson also had a grocery store and gas station in Slaughterville around 1950-1970. They also ran the tavern for a while in Slaughterville. I spent many a Sunday afternoon visiting them at their tavern and store. Do you any of the history of the store the operated? There was also a big white house on the hill either behind the tavern or store. My dad married the daughter of the house's owner around 1940. The later divorced. Do you know the lady's name?

Absolutely great site. We just recently discovered that my husband's great grandmother Mary ? Smith was a Cobb and daughter of Samuel Cobb and his 2nd wife. I can provide more info on her, her Smith children and 2nd marriage and children of that marriage, if you are interested. We had not known full name of her Smith husband so all this is very exciting for us. I've spent many years working on my lines and started working on Larry's mother's line around the first of the year.

WILLIAM WALTON COBBS ii
RURAL RETREAT, VIRGINIA
Additions to info in Guestbook of Apr 30 2005: For Cobbs genealogical buffs, my Aunt Mary Love Cobbs(1861-1961) spent six years in Europe and many years in Va.collecting genealogical data. Upon her death, my brother Cabell Flournoy Cobbs continued her work until his death Dec 9 2002. (Google Cabell Flournoy Cobbs). I will do a hurried encapsulation here of all of the work chronologically and broadly: Cobbs were first recorded in Church records in or near Cobh Ireland in 750 AD. They manufactured swords and shields and knives for combat. We next find them in Wales in 1200 AD, still in the same busiess but no longer in Ireland. Next written records find them in Taunton, Somerset in 1336, and they have built a large fortified castle called COBBS HALL. A branch of Cobbs is still there. Nearby is COBB. a small town with 350 COBBS buried in the Church Of England cemetery. The first record of an AMBROSE COBBS is of 18 year old Ambrose at Cobbs Hall who goes to America(1613?) he marries a servant gitl and his son Ambrose II is born in 1632, and moves to York Va and starts raising tobacco on a grant of 10,000 acres. His son Ambrose III is born about 1675, and marries a girl sent from England. Ambrose V is born in COBBS Va. in 1710, and moves the family to Richmond after becoming a Burgess at Williamsburg(see plaques). Ambrose VI is born in a plantation just out side Richmond, and marries a Hugenot woman, a Cabell. He moves to Halifax County,Virginia, and fathers John James Cobbs, who marries another Cabell, Their son William Walton Cobbs I marries Louise Cabell Flournoy and gets 2000 acres in Pittsylvania County as dowry, He begets 12 children, the youngest Walter Herbert Cobbs born September 27 1882, died Feb 5 1944 and my Father who married Louise Ballard Pearson and begat me and four brothers, moving to Franklin County, Va.. I married Joan Loewy Perlman of New York and later Rita Cooper Cromwell of Indiana and I begat seven chikdren, Louise, Roberta, William W. III, Cabell, Kathleen. Stephanie, and Elizabeth. Louise and husband STUART have Rachel who has Alec: Stephanie married Jon Woloshin and has ELISE and ZOE. That is the rough list from 750 A.D. to now!
