OUR BUSINESSMEN ON THE FARM
Route 1 London. It is located about five miles from town at Piney Grove
and is better known as the old Lee Wyrick place. The 83-acre tract has been
in possession of the present owner since 1921 when he acquired it by
purchase from Elan Brewer. About ten years ago the Humfleets erected a new
dwelling after having built a tobacco barn the year before. Tobacco, hay
and livestock are the principal products of the oepration. A vegetable
garden and a small flock of chickens furnish the family with its needs
along those lines. Two breeds of cattle, Herefords and Jerseys, are raised
on the farm but Mr. Humfleet is termed quite partial to the latter. However,
he is enthuastic about this part of farm operation and the livestock might
be termed his hobby. Making a hobby of a segment of his farm business is
almost a necessity in Humfleet's case, since he is kept so busy with his
second vocation, the real estate business, that he has no spare time to
pursue a "strictly for pleasure" recreation. He is one half of the firm of
Williams-Humfleet Realty, Fred Williams being the partner.
On June 2, 1915, Humfleet was married to Miss Rosa Carmack, daughter of
