divorced a few years later
Sophia spent the majority of her life in Oklahoma and had
been Cole's widow for over 25 years when she married Otis.
Otis had spent the majority of his life in California and had
been the widower of his first wife, Alice (Lancaster) Cooper,
for many years when he married Sophia.
But Sophia and Otis had known each other for decades
through assorted family connections. The closest connection
is that Sophia's nephew Johnny Harmon had long-time been
married to Otis's and Alice's daughter Fern (Cooper) Harmon.
Johnny is the son of Sophia's sister Haley (Cobb) Harmon.
Another connection is that Otis's sister Thelma (Cooper) Ryan
was married to Everett Ryan, who's brother Roy Ryan was
married to Johnny's sister Marie (Harmon) Ryan. None of
these couples were blood-related to each other but all had
close family ties to each other.
Everyone wished Sophia and Otis a happy marriage in their
late years like that, but it didn't work out and they divorced
only a few years later. Otis moved back to California and did
eventually marry again, to Ruby, and it was a happy marriage
he stayed in for the rest of his life.
When Sophia died in 1984, she was buried next to Cole,
her first husband and the father of all of her children.
