WILLIAM C. BOTKIN KILLED IN HAMILTON
playing on the banks of the Miami Riber. Coroner Edward Cook stated
that the victim suffered neck and jaw injuries, which caused his death.
Indications aer that he was murdered and robbed of about $30 of money he
was known to have had on his person, and condition of his clothing
indicated that the body had been dragged to the place it was found.
William C. Botkin was born March 23, 1893, at McWhorter, KY, a son of
James T. and Georgia Young Botkin. He lived in London a few years with
his parents, until his mother passed away. He attended Sue Bennett then
and later he was graduated from Ohio Mechanics Institute and had been
employed as a machinist until attacks of asthma became so severe that he
had to give up his work. He made his home with his sister, to whom he
talked much of his strong belief in the Lord Jesus. He was unmarried.
Surviving are three sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Hume Tatem,
Crestwood; Mrs. J.K. Lewis, London; Mrs. Chas B. Owen, Pineville;
Dr. D. R. Botkin, Louisville; Chas Botkin, Chicago and Jimmie Botkin,
McWhorter. Also surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Lora Botkin and many
relatives and friends. The remains were brought to the home of Mr. and
Mrs. J.K. Lewis, on McWhorter Street, where funeral services were
conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, by the Rev. Harold Tallant
of the London Baptist Church, followed by burial in the family lot in
the Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Van Smith, Hansford Black,
Harry Black, Herman House, Joe Russell, Ed Woodall. Honorary pallbearers
were members of the American Legion, he having been a veteran of the
First World War. Among out of town persons here to attend the funeral
were Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Botkin, Mr. Sam Young and daughter,
of Lexington, Mesdames Sherman Kidd and Ada Johnson, of Berea,
and Mr. and Mrs. Crit Black of Barbourville.
